The Jewelled Pavilion Faction
Jewelled Pavilion faction members are easily recognised by their Persian style clothing.
The Jewelled Pavilion consists primarily of exiles refugees and explorers from another land, known as Hayat Ghallaya (The Cauldron of Life). They are dominated by Persian styled cultures which are closely linked with the Jinn (or hidden ones), elemental beings known variously as Ghul, Ifrit, or Marid. The ghul is a desert-dwelling shape shifting being that can assume the guise of an animal, especially a hyena. It lures unwary travelers into the desert wastes to slay and devour them. The creature also preys on young children, robs graves, drinks blood, and eats the dead, taking on the form of the one it previously ate. An ifrit is a creature of fire, either male or female, who lives underground and frequents ruins. Ifrits live in a society structured along ancient tribal lines, complete with kings, tribes, and clans. While ordinary weapons and forces have no power over them, they are susceptible to magic, which humans can use to kill them or to capture and enslave them. An ifrit may be either good or evil, but he is most often depicted as a wicked and ruthless being. A Marid is associated with the open waters of the seas and oceans. Marids are often described as the most powerful type of jinn, having especially great powers. They are also the most arrogant and proud. Like every jinn, they have free will yet could be compelled to perform chores. They also have the ability to grant wishes to mortals, but that usually requires battle, and/or imprisonment, rituals, or just a great deal of flattery. For many centuries people in these lands have been aware of the presence of these beings and strong-willed individuals have occasionally been able to gain hidden knowledge through interaction with them. Over generations it became apparent that those who consorted with the Jinn began to display latent elemental potential. This power was not great, perhaps the ability to start a fire at the touch of a finger for those who dealt with ifrit, but it was sufficient to set these people apart and over time a hierarchical system developed which placed the jinn-blooded in a position of privilege and responsibility in society.
Realms of Hayat Ghallaya
The Caliphate of Ri’akanThis realm is ruled by a despotic tyrant whose lust for material wealth is only matched by his appetite for debauchery. The jinn-blooded in this land deal primarily with the ifrit, and indeed the Jami’a Nar (The University of Fire), the pre-eminent centre of tutelage for Ifrit Binders, is located in the capital city of al’Qitan. However, the Caliph’s death squads known as the Samtqatil (the silent killers) are known to deal with the Ghul.
The Caliphate of Dan’arraLying to the east of Ri’akan across a forbidding mountain range, this realm is home to the Sahabayan (cloudlords), powerful masters of the most dangerous of the jinn, the Marid.
The Caliphate of Za’irTo the north of Ri’akan, this land has suffered greatly because of the greed of its jinn-blooded, which chose to take the seemingly easy path to riches offered by the Ghul. These evil jinn fulfilled their promises of wealth for many years but eventually a cataclysm of their doing engulfed the fertile heartlands of this realm leaving a parched wasteland in its wake.
The Jewelled Pavilion is actively trying to find ways to bring more of their people to Orin Rakatha without attracting notice by the rulers of the Caliphates.
Diplomatic status with the other factions
The Jewelled Pavilion will start events with neutrality towards all other factions. This of course may change on the event and your actions as the players will affect diplomatic relations on future events.
