Empowering Rituals

Rituals are Empowered through Participation and Sacrifice

Having more Ritualists (devotees or greater) within the ritual circle will help ‘power’ your ritual. Having them take an active part in the ritual will power it even more.

Any Items/Resources that you are sacrificing to power your ritual should be placed (& left) upon the altar that resides in the ritual circle.

Additional sacrificial resources can be used to power a ritual. The power needed for a ritual is relative to what you are trying to achieve.

Having greater ritual power will reduce the chances of failure.

Some rituals have a specific ritual sacrifice needed for the ritual to succeed, whilst others will specify a minimum amount, or leave it completely open.

Ritual sacrifice does not always means resources/Gest. Other items of ‘value’ can also be considered. Examples include (dependant of the ritual being performed): Tomes of Knowledge, Objects of Lore, Physical Traits (Skills/Knowledge/Memory), Fine Foods/Wines, Magical Items/Scrolls, Magical Ability (Temporary or Permanent), Religious Artifacts, Heirlooms.

Only In Character items can be sacrificed.

Rituals sacrifices are permanent. For example, you cannot sacrifice your life, and then get resurrected afterwards.

The Master of the Ritual

The Master will be creating a single area of magic within which Rituals must be performed. Due to the powerful and dangerous nature of Ritual Magic, the area will carry protections around it, stopping entry of all sorts of creatures, stopping stray Magic from escaping, and only permission from the Master will allow anything to enter the Ritual Area.

You will know the Master by the obvious Stole around the neck - and please note that the appearance of the Master may change!

Each Faction will be given 3 x. 15 minute Ritual slots during the event, 1 slot in each of the first 3 sections of the event (Friday Evening, Saturday Morning until lunch & Saturday afternoon between lunch and dinner)

The Master will be in control of the Ritual Offering box, where the suitable offerings required for each Ritual will be given, and this box will come under the protection of the Azard-An who run the Tavern, and the Bank there.

Factions should agree their slot with the Master, as they will be given on a first come first served basis. Should you wish to sell your slot to another Faction, then you must book that with the Ritual Master

Those who wish to perform additional Rituals may approach the Master and have the Master unlock the Ritual Circle at times when it is unused, for which there will be a donation of 20 Gests given to the Master at the time of booking your Ritual Slot.

Should you book a Ritual slot and fail to turn up for it, you will lose your slot and any payment made for it.

Ritual Advice

You should be prepared to start your ritual soon after entering the circle. Dithering inside for too long will weaken your ritual, and could even cause a failure.

Try to ensure that any spoken words/chants etc are audible outside of the circle.

Don’t let activity outside of the circle distract you from your ritual. Having other people in the circle have an active part in the ritual is far better than having them stood around doing nothing.

Remember to ensure the four ritual elements. Devotion (Ritualists), Sanctity (Cleansing & optional sealing of the circle), Effigy (Ritual paraphernalia), & Incantation (The words, gestures & performance of the ritual.)

If in doubt, the Ritual Masters are available to discuss your ritual requirements, and offer advice, and help you plan for a successful ritual. Rituals are not always successful, and can sometimes have adverse effects. Suitable rituals, multiple Ritualists, and larger amounts of ritual sacrifice can significantly increase the chance of success.
